Testimonial sections for small teams

Every audit we run turns up some version of this. Most advice about testimonial sections assumes a team that does not exist at your size. Here is the version that does not.

Design decisions are the ones clients feel most confident arguing about, which makes it worth separating taste from evidence early. Most teams find the first pass takes an afternoon and the maintenance takes minutes a month.

What to keep

A specific quote beats five vague ones. None of that requires a large budget, only a decision and someone to own it. It is the sort of thing that looks like polish right up until it costs you an enquiry.

What to drop

Process that exists to coordinate ten people is overhead when there are two of you. Small and consistent beats large and occasional here.

The practical version

Unattributed praise reads as invented. Where this goes wrong is almost never a lack of knowledge. It is worth deciding this deliberately rather than inheriting whatever the last person set up.

In practice

Consistency is the quiet half of design work: it rarely gets complimented, and its absence is noticed immediately. Three things worth confirming about testimonial sections before you move on:

  • Someone can say what the current setup is without going to look
  • Names, roles, and companies make quotes credible — and you know whether that is true here
  • There is a way to tell whether the last change to this helped

None of this needs a rewrite. Most of it is a morning's work once someone decides to do it.
