Getting started with product reviews
Most teams know this matters. Fewer have decided who owns it. A short on-ramp to product reviews for teams who have not touched it before.
Trust does most of the selling online, and trust is built from unglamorous details. Check it against what you would want a competitor's site to get wrong.
What it costs to ignore
Reviews answer the questions your copy avoids. Getting it slightly wrong is survivable. Ignoring it entirely is not. The practical test is whether someone new to the project could tell, in a minute, that it had been handled.
Your first week
- Find out what is already in place
- A few critical reviews make the positive ones believable
- Change one thing and measure it
Reply to bad reviews in public, calmly. Where this goes wrong is almost never a lack of knowledge. It rarely shows up as a line item, which is exactly why it slips.
The short version
Small percentage changes matter here because they apply to every order, every month. Three things worth confirming about product reviews before you move on:
- Someone can say what the current setup is without going to look
- A few critical reviews make the positive ones believable — and you know whether that is true here
- There is a way to tell whether the last change to this helped
Worth checking on your own setup before it becomes someone else's problem to fix.
