Three myths about digital transformation

This is cheap to get right at the start and expensive to retrofit. A few things about digital transformation that get repeated more often than they get checked.

Clear scope protects the client at least as much as it protects the agency. If it only works because one person remembers to do something, it does not work yet.

“It only matters for big sites”

The technology is rarely the hard part. The teams that handle this well are rarely the ones with the biggest budgets. Budget a little time for it every quarter and it never becomes a project of its own.

“We can deal with it after launch”

Sometimes true, usually expensive. None of that requires a large budget, only a decision and someone to own it.

“Our platform handles it”

Start with one workflow that visibly hurts. That sounds obvious written down. It is still the thing most often skipped. Most teams find the first pass takes an afternoon and the maintenance takes minutes a month.

What this looks like day to day

The projects that go badly are rarely the ones with the hardest technical problems. Three things worth confirming about digital transformation before you move on:

  • Someone can say what the current setup is without going to look
  • Start with one workflow that visibly hurts — and you know whether that is true here
  • There is a way to tell whether the last change to this helped

If any of that sounds like a description of your current setup, it is fixable.
